Overview
Dignity Health Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital is a 104-bed not-for-profit hospital located in Grass Valley California. Responsibilities
The incumbent performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures to provide comprehensive ultrasound and/ or NI Vascular Lab services for the hospital. Demonstrates competency in patient care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. 1.1 Uses independent judgement according to the circumstances of the procedure performs a broad range of ultrasound imaging procedures to create diagnostic medical images that meet the acceptability by the Medical Director. Assists the physician with guidance procedures and intra-operative studies. Maintains a repeat rate of 3%-5%.
1.2 Positively identifies patient and correlates procedure with physician's order. Explains procedure to patient and responds to patient questions/concerns before beginning. Obtains written consent to proceed when required by hospital standard practice and for invasive procedures that sufficient explanation for informed consent has been given by a physician. Measured by record/chart review with 95%-98% compliance.
1.3 Reviews patient schedule daily prior to beginning workload to insure there are no scheduling errors, prioritizes exams and maintains patient flow so that scheduled patients wait no longer than 15-20 minutes for their procedure. Informs patient of reason for delay when emergency cases are added on. Measured by no more than 1-02 formal complaints per year.
1.4 Maintains work area in a neat and clean fashion, observes that equipment is in safe operating condition 95%-98% of the time. Reports equipment issues to supervisor or seeks appropriate resources for repairs within one hour. Measured by observation and no more than 1-2 formal complaints per year.
1.5 Maintains accurate records of procedures and makes appropriate entries into medical record and R.I.S. Prepares or verifies that internal case file record is complete. Verifies patient symptoms and records additional pertinent information obtained from the patient. Measured by complete documentation 95%-98% of the time.
1.6 Maintains and preserves patient privacy, dignity and comfort by using table pads, patient gowns, blankets and sheets to cover the patient during all procedures 95%-98% of the time. Measured by observation and no more than 1-2 formal complaints per year.
1.7 Participates in quality improvement/QC efforts within Imaging Services and with other departments to improve services and solve problems. Assists with data collection, correlation and reporting as documented in meeting minutes and/or monthly QA/QC reports according to department practice. Can exceed the expectation by actively participating in an identified project. Qualifications
REQUIRES:

  • Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medial Sonographers and certification by RDMS in a minimum of two modalities including vascular. -
  • Knowledge of: Ultrasonic physics and instrumentation. Physiology, anatomy and non invasive vascular imaging as represented by ultrasound techniques. All currently accepted diagnostic ultrasonographic and non invasive vascular imaging procedures. Principles of operation, care and performance evaluation of ultrasound equipment. Film processing systems Image display and archive systems Mechanical, electrical and ultrasound safety practices and requirements in the patient examination environment. Ability to: Perform diagnostic ultrasonographic and non-invasive vascular procedures with a high level of expertise. Effectively communicate with the patients, the physicians, and other hospital personnel. Maintain the confidence of Radiologists in clinical problem description, complete examination with good image quality and completeness of exam Coordinate work and establish priorities. Maintain patient confidentiality. Calm and reassure those patients who are distressed by events or the procedure Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with physicians and hospital personnel for efficient utilization of the service. Work effectively under stress and adjust priorities as circumstances require. Organize work assignments, maintaining accurate and complete records. Evaluate equipment performance against manufacturers standards and quality expectations of the Radiologist; create and maintain records of objective performance measurements for the equipment. Work independently on-call covering all normal clerical and technical functions.
