Responsibilities The Special Procedures Technologist II performs general radiographic procedures and at least two other imaging modalities, CT, Angiography, Mammography and Breast Ultrasound, Bone Densitometry or MRI.The Special Procedures Technologist II competently and consistently performs the following the skills to Hospital standard1.1 Demonstrates competency in patient care while performing a broad range of imaging procedures, maintaining a repeat rate of 4 - 5%.1.2 Introduces self and verifies patient identification by checking the patient's wrist band.1.3 Establishes or verifies patient symptoms and conditions through interview or review of medical record, recording information on the exam form while also communicating all pertinent information to the radiologist.1.4 Maintains and preserves patient privacy, dignity and comfort by using table pads, patient gowns, blankets and sheets to cover the patient during procedures.1.5 Demonstrates mastery of use of radiographic equipment and accessories, including CT scanner, MRI scanner, or mammography equipment.1.6 Assesses film quality for position, artifacts, density and contrast prior to patient leaving department.1.7 Demonstrates ability to trouble-shoot cause of poor quality images and takes corrective measures.1.8 Reviews difficult or questionable examinations with a radiologist.1.9 Ensures exam is completed - labeled, dated, all appropriate paperwork and previous exams attached, before turning in to be read.1.10 Maintains clean, well-stocked work area.1.11 Maintains sterile technique when applicable.1.12 Performs darkroom duties as needed.1.13 Performs Meditech functions - completion of exams - Ordered to Taken Status - and charges for appropriate exams and supplies.1.14 Provides radiation protection for patients, assistants and self in accordance with all regulations.1.15 Demonstrates the knowledge of the proper uses and dangers of contrast medias.1.16 Assures that equipment is clean and in proper working order.1.17 Performs non-technical functions within the department as appropriate, i.e. clerical tasks, linen and supply stocking, hanging and clearing alternators. Qualifications REQUIRES:California fluoroscopic permit.Three years experience in an Imaging Department.One year experience in CT or one year experience in MRI or one year experience in Mammography knowledge of: anatomy and physiology for Imaging including, cross sectional relationships, medical terminology related to Imaging procedures, principles of operation and care of radiologic, mammography, CT or MRI equipment currently accepted diagnostic radiologic, special procedures, mammography, CT or MRI procedures, radiation safety requirements and practices for the operator, patient and public, film processing systems, mechanical and electrical safety practices and requirements in the patient examination environment. Preparation, use and hazards of diagnostic contrast materials. MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act) - mammography technologists only.Current California State Department of Health Certification as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)Current BLSCurrent ARRT registration.
