Job Description:

Position Overview:The Senior Development Officer(SDO) will cultivate, solicit and steward major and planned givingprospects/donors with a capacity to make a gift of $25,000 or more. - These will include business owners,executives, physicians, community, and philanthropic leaders. - SDO will be directly responsible for 100 to150 prospects/donors and annual revenue of $1.25 million or more - increasingduring tenure with SMCF. - Solicitationswill be directed toward high priority hospital projects for building,equipment, programmatic and endowment needs. -
SDO will actively team withother development staff including other Senior Development Officers, - Directors of Philanthropy, Valley VicePresident for Philanthropy and the entire philanthropy team. - SDO will be primarily responsible forspecific hospital service lines as well as other high priority projects. - SDO will generate and follow-through withcomplex solicitation plans: develop a case for support; identify and recruitinga compelling solicitation team of physicians, volunteers and senior executives- in collaboration with Director and development staff. - Teamwork and collaboration within SMCF aswell as with other Sutter Health foundations is required.
It is the responsibility ofthe SDO to update donor database records for assigned donors/prospects asinteractions occur.
Qualifications:Education: -

  • Associate's Degree required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.Experience: -
    • Three to Five years as a major gifts officer for an established non-profitinstitution with experience solely focused on major gift solicitations of$25,000 or more.
    • A track record of results showingfunds raised of $1 million annually.
    • Hospital or university experiencestrongly preferred.Knowledge: -
      • Highly sophisticated understanding of and experience with all aspects ofthe cultivation and -solicitation cycle including moves management.
      • Strategic planning for individualprospects to include cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, etc.
      • Experience personally asking forgifts.
      • Knowledge of Sacramento communitypreferred.
      • Excellent written and oralcommunication skills.
      • Proven track record ofsuccessfully managing current and prospective donors at the major gifts level ($25,000or greater).
      • Ambitious and motivatedprofessional who values a collaborative working environment; outstanding socialskills, instinct and judgment.
      • Able to establish stronginterpersonal relationships with donors, foundation trustees, developmentstaff, senior leadership and physicians.
      • Maturity and integrity required.Special Skills/Equipment: -
