ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Senior Underwriter is empowered to analyze, evaluate, price and execute on terms and conditions for both new and renewal business within delegated authority in accordance with corporate strategy, goals and guidelines.Mentors underwriters, underwriter trainees and assistant underwriters.Refers business beyond empowered authority to appropriate authority level with a complete analysis and a recommendation for either accepting or rejecting the risk.Implements underwriting controls to monitor account activity by agency.Reviews and applies information from all departments on changes that apply to underwriting issues.Visits agents/brokers periodically to establish and maintain contacts and develop additional businessExplains coverage(s), rules forms, and decisions to agents/brokers, company personnel, and policy holders as needed or required.Provide training and assistance to, agents/brokers as necessary and needed on underwriting matters, procedures, processes, forms and rating. (Advantage System Underwriters, includes training and assistance with the Advantage System for producers, CSR's, other agency personnel on a regular and ongoing basis.)Leads agency underwriting auditsMaintain knowledge of current market trends, conditions and competition in the marketplace.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCITONS:High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred with preferred majors: Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Systems Management, Business Management.CPCU preferred but not mandatory.Background and experience in agricultural and/or farm operations.Five years of insurance company underwriting experience.Knowledge of all lines of business and risk selection techniques.Good communication skills both oral and writtenAbility to handle multi-taskingStrong interpersonal skills and customer service orientedStrong producer management skillsProficient with computersSit, stand, walk/ambulatoryAbility to lift 10 poundsAbility to interact with others in a team setting and professional manner.
