The hospital has been providing compassionate quality health care to residents and visitors of western Nevada County since 1958. With 787 employees 101 active medical staff and 21 Emergency Department beds Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital continually implements and upgrades its technology and recruits employees who understand the vital importance of kindness and compassion in the healing process.**Responsibilities**The Technical Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for all functions in the Laboratory relative to the performance of laboratory tests to provide data in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, including analyzing specimens on automated equipment, and maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment. The Technical Lead CLS also directs laboratory section operations.1.1 Analyzes various samples in all departments of the Laboratory, following standard procedures.1.2 Assesses the validity of results obtained according to age and sex, accurately records and reports results.1.3 Performs routine calibration and adjustment of equipment, checks standardization curves and non-routine calibration and adjustment of equipment in conjunction with the manufacturer.1.4 Receives or obtains specimens for laboratory analysis.1.5 Performs quality control with each test to check accuracy and reproducibility of tests; if out of control, takes corrective action.1.6 Instructing or supervising of less skilled laboratory personnel; directs the daily activities in the absence of management.1.7 Performs preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment. Instructs CLS in performing maintenance; is responsible for making sure all necessary maintenance is performed.1.8 Assists in preparing reagents and solutions and in maintaining an adequate level of reagents and supplies. Is responsible for ordering and maintaining an inventory of supplies, setting up sequestered lots, and rotating dated supplies.1.9 Administers and reads skin tests.1.10 Ensures compliance with state, CAP and Joint Comission regulations.1.11 Maintains and revises procedure manuals according to established format.1.12 Compiles and submits monthly quality reports to laboratory management.1.13 Devises training procedures for new employees and new equipment. Maintains initial competency on all new procedures and instruments.1.14 Writes technical bulletins for the purpose of informing the medical staff.1.15 Performs peer review inspections of other CAP laboratories.1.16 Confers with medical staff regarding infection control, formulary (Microbiology) and or test menu selection/deletion.1.17 Attends manufacturer's class instruction both off and on site for new equipment and advanced operator training; then is responsible for teaching the laboratory staff and writing the new procedures.1.18 Participates in hospital wide quality assurance developmental assessment teams.1.19 Performs 6 month and annual competency for all staff members performing testing within the section of the laboratory. Competency assessments must be readily available during inspections.1.20 Investigate any quality issues including instrument failures, testing failures and or employee training failures. Devise solutions or follow through on action items/plan.**Sign on and Relocation offered wtih this title****Qualifications**REQUIRES:+ Knowledge of laboratory and section policies and procedure.
